NASCAR – Bojangles Southern 500 DFS – 09.02.18

Happy Labor Day weekend race fans! Tonight is the Bojangles Southern 500 at Darlington and I’m expecting a pretty good, exciting race. The Xfinity race Saturday was entertaining and with both Ross Chastain and Kevin Harvick in tonight’s race, it’ll be interesting to see if the bad blood runs over. It might take you half the race to figure out which driver is yours as many of the drivers have a throwback paint scheme. You’ll see Austin Dillon in the silver #3, Brad Keselowski in the old Rusty Wallace Miller Lite paint scheme, and many other paint schemes that will take you back to the good ol days. Once again, my buddy @SDBoyle1 joins me for this week’s Made, Fade, & Trade.

@SDBoyle1 Kevin Harvick $11,400: Kevin Harvick was my number 1 rated driver coming into this weekend and now with him starting 22nd the decision is even easier for me. One might think his ownership will sky rocket given his starting position, but I’m not sure that’s the case. With Kyle Busch having the best ten lap average in Happy hour, and Denny Hamlin on the pole, I do expect ownership to be more spread out. I will own some Hamlin, but I expect Harvick to challenge him for the win thus making him a core play come Sunday night.

@TheRealJoshG Denny Hamlin $9,900: It’s rare that I’ll put someone other than The Big 3 in my Made section but I think this sets up perfectly for Denny. I mentioned him in the race preview having much success at Darlington and he has continued to show speed this weekend. To recap from earlier this week, Hamlin is the defending champ and has 3 straight T5s at Darlington and also 7 finishes inside the T6 in his L8 here. He’s starting on the pole and I expect him to lead laps, especially jumping out of the gate in Stage 1. IMO, you’ll need Denny in your LU in order to win.

@SDBoyle1 Martin Truex Jr $10,900: Well you have to fade someone at the top, so that guy for me is Martin Truex Jr. He starts 3rd on Sunday night, but I do not see him finishing up there. He was only 24th in Happy hour, with the 18th best ten lap average. When they are not fast from the start of the weekend that seems to be problematic because they don’t seem to make big changes to the car during the race. With all of that, I just do not see the 78 returning value given his price tag, so he will be on 0 of my DK rosters.

@TheRealJoshG Chase Elliott $10,200: HUGE price bump from DK as Chase increased $1,100 this week. He has scored 58.3, 43, 74, 48, & 90.5 in his L5 races. Those 40 point performances are decent value when he’s priced in the high $8000 or low $9000 range but to be bumped above $10K, he needs consistent high point runs. Finishes of 10th and 11th in his L2 races aren’t anything to be real excited about or make you believe he has the potential to beat out the other top guys around him. Full fade on Chase for me this week.

@SDBoyle1 Brad Keselowski $9,300 for Kurt Busch $8,500: I could see people going to Brad since he is starting 13th and does have a chance for place differential with a top 5 finish. Unless they make substantial changes throughout the race on Sunday I do not see that happening. The 1990 Rusty Wallace replica #2 car (love the throwback paint schemes) was only 16th in Happy hour, and only had the 19th best ten lap average. Kurt Busch was just the opposite with the 5th best time in Happy hour, and the 6th best overall ten lap average. He also finished 3rd here last year, so I expect him to come to the front early and stay there for the majority of the night.

@TheRealJoshG Erik Jones $8,700 to Jimmie Johnson $8,300: Erik Jones was one of my Drivers to Watch this week and this isn’t a full fade on him. However I think Jimmie Johnson may be overlooked in this price range with guys like Bowyer, Jones, Kurt Busch, and Almirola priced around him. Jones is starting 7th and I expect him to run in the T10. Jimmie is starting 20th and getting inside the T10 should produce more points than Jones. The Hendrick cars have showed speed this weekend with Bowman qualifying 4th and Byron qualifying 10th. Chevy has also showed they picked up some speed in recent weeks and I think they’re closing the gap on the field. I’ll still have a sprinkle of everyone in this price range but pivoting to Jimmie here will be my most popular play.

Good luck to everyone this weekend! Everyone have a safe, enjoyable holiday. Hopefully it’s filled with many green screens! Be sure to check us out closer to race time for any matchup plays that we may like for tonight!
